Through STEM activities, AAUW endeavors to immerse girls in a world that empowers and encourages them to think about themselves as future scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and computer specialists.
Since 1998, AAUW has helped change girls’ lives through Tech Trek, an experiential summer camp backed by research and designed to pique the interest of girls in STEM. For many girls, the weeklong camp provides the spark that ignites their curiosity and places them on a path toward success.

Additional outreach efforts have evolved over time, offering opportunities for girls in two age groups to explore science through one-day workshops. The students are transported to a local college or university for the day and choose two workshops to attend in a STEM area of interest. After breakfast and a welcoming presentation, students attend selected workshops. They enjoy a key-note speaker with lunch, learning about various career paths from young professional women.
